About Us
Making the World a Better Place For All of Us
Our Story
Purposeful Living & Giving Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit service organization comprised exclusively of volunteers in the Washington D.C. area who are passionate about giving back to the community. We are managed by a Board of 12 members who are actively engaged in the planning and execution of programs and events throughout the year. To support our continued growth and desire to increase our “giving” a membership group named the Friends of Purposeful Living & Giving has been formally established.
What We Do
Back to School Program
To assist and encourage families in the DMV with children returning to school we provide laptops, back packs and associated supplies for students.
Address Food Insecurity During Thanksgiving and Christmas
We partner with multiple agencies to distribute boxes of food to families in need. We are proud to have contributed to the distribution of more than 3000 meals in the DMV.
Christmas Toy and Gift Drive
In the true giving spirit of Christmas we have made a commitment to “Making a Difference” for less fortunate individuals in our community during the holiday season.
Senior Citizens / Nursing Home /Assisted Living
In addition to financial contributions, we partner with senior centers in our community to help seniors remain physically and mentally active, as well as spending time, talking, playing games and of course……laughing.
Signature Event
Boots and Bow Ties – For more than 9 years, this event has been one of the most popular Christmas Soirre’s in the Metropolitan DC area. The event had its origins as a house “party with a purpose”. Sadly, one of the original organizers (Edwin DeVaughn) suddenly passed, and it was in his honor that we decided “Boots and Bow Ties” would be an annual event, and the proceeds would benefit needy families in the DMV and Camden NJ. Prior to his death, Edwin served as the band director at Camden High where he started a Christmas toy drive to support students and their families. In his honor we have expanded the effort and it now encompasses the DMV and Wilmington DE. Over the last nine years, the charitable donations raised from this event have helped over 1600 families with clothing, toys, and gift cards in excess of $45,000.
